Back from Camburi

Our 3km walk to the site. It wasn't bad because it was all down hill. The wilderness of nature greeted us the entire way to the site.

Edwuargo, the man in charge of the bamboo school construction greeted us as we arrived to the site.
He kindly explained all of our questions and some details about the building.
From bamboo treatment to the mud mix used, every process was thoroughly explained.
On our way back from Camburi back to Rio, we stopped by a huge waterfall.
It was beautiful!

Third Day!

So since I skipped yesterday, I will start out with summarizing yesterday for a little.
Jen, Preston, and I went running in the morning. There were a lot of people running and walking along the beach with us. I, of course did not run too much. I walked whenever I got out of breath and had Preston and Jen run past me.
We also went to Sugar Loaf. Went with some of Bhavna's friends (they are wonderful!). Sugar loaf was breath taking. It was so beautiful and the weather was perfect for site seeing.
We also went down to the beach. It was a little chilly but overall we had a great time.

And now moving on to Today!
We went to PUCi !!! The school was so pretty. It was like having a school in the middle of the forest. We had a chance to meet Dr. Khovami. He was wonderful. He was very welcoming and seemed very intelligent.
The bus ride back was quite an experience. Crazy  bus drivers here, Bhavna's expression of "the crazy bus from the Harry Potter" was the perfect description for it.
It still kind of feels not real, me being here. I feel like any minute I am going to wake up from this dream and wake up in my apartment in Pittsburgh.
Also feeling a little stressed realizing how much work we have to get done while we are here with all the distraction (the beach, site seeing, exploring) and limited access to resources.
Tomorrow is our presentation.....getting nervous a little

First Day

Finally! We are all here in RIO!!
A little rough plane ride but everything else went well.
We all got our luggages, no delays (except for Atlanta....when we landed in Atlanta, we waited for over an hour in the plane after we landed because they couldn't find an open gate ).
Anyways, we got to Rio, stepped outside to the gorgeous weather. The sun was out, temperature around mid 70's, it was perfect.
After we checked in to the hotel, we all went out for a walk, checked out the beach.
Oh my God the beach! amazing!
The waves were so high (over six feet tall), the water was a little chilly but not too bad.
There were a lot of people walking their dogs, playing volleyball, just walking.
People seem friendly here but I really need to get going with my Portuguese. haha
We are trying to find a place to eat dinner. It's not that easy. Everything here is so expensive.
